Violência no Cinema | Violence in Film
Violence in Film is a donation-based 4-part series (bi-weekly) at Curious Monkey where we will examine the use of violence in cinema. Each session will focus on one theme and one film in order to explore questions such as: what defines the limits of violence representation? Are graphic depictions necessarily more violent? Why us viewers indulge in these spectacles?
For our first installment on September 16th, the theme will be “Conquering the Medium.” Focusing on a Western from 1948, Red River, we will explore how the Golden Age of Hollywood established some patterns and types. What differs the fighting scenes with Indians from the protagonists’ duels? What was acceptable back then that today wouldn’t be? Or, are those representations really different than the typical superhero fights from our days?
At each session, we will together watch certain scenes. But, please, feel free to watch the entire film before attending if you would like.
